Youngstown Delivers Another Big One to the Nation

Youngstown, OH – Youngstown, OH has ranked high in the nation for unemployment and crime, but it is also hometown to professional boxing champions Ray ‘Boom Boom’ Mancini, Kelly Pavlic, Reality Show Star; Omarosa, and nation’s first Automobile Czar, Honorable Mayor Jay Williams [under the Obama administration.] Now Talk/Variety Show Host, Debórah Benton hopes The Debórah Show will be the next big deal out of this Mahoning Valley small town.
Thursday, Aug 11, at 11:00 A.M. wealthy investors will meet in the conference room of famed Pro Baseball legend-turned business mogul, Herb L. Washington, to entertain the idea of investing in a television talk show for national syndication based in the most unlikeliest of places; Youngstown, OH.

The show at the center of the discussions, The Debórah Show (formerly The Valley Gold Show with Debórah Benton) has been airing on the local CBS and Fox affiliates for six years; and based on its successes, producers are convinced it can be a serious contender in the world of Talk Shows on a national scale.

At the very onset, Benton has a daunting challenge: As broadcast television goes, competition is fierce; only one in ninety-nine shows makes it into syndication. Most of the shows that do succeed have enormous financial, geographic, and people resources that big cities can provide, including star power, tourism and mass transit systems. Youngstown, OH boasts none of these. So, before the pilot episodes can be produced, Benton has to persuade any potential investor(s) that her show is a solid opportunity for them to receive a return – in spite of the odds. After six years of ‘testing the waters,’ Benton is convinced that with the right team and adequate resources, she can produce a hit show.

On Thursday morning, Benton is scheduled to make her case before a small group of investors. She will do so in a format similar to that seen on the TV series, “Shark Tank.” During this time she will also unveil her ‘dream team’ of sorts, which includes Chicago Scenic (set designers for the Oprah Winfrey Show), Tim Voit and Sewee Entertainment, (Syndicator of Jack Hanna’s Animal Adventures, Business Week, NASCAR Angels, etc.) seasoned writers and producers, and others. Taking a page from Benton’s mentor, Herb Washington, she’s definitely aiming high; proof positive are the credentials of her ‘teammates.’ Debórah comments, “I’m playing to win; anything less is a waste of time.” If the investors buy in, Benton expects to have the pilots produced by early September in order for syndicator Voit/Sewee Entertainment to present for the 2012 programming season. Jim Rowlands, Director of the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce’s REACH program, serves as Benton’s business plan developer. According to projections, if the show goes into syndication, the pay-off for investors is in the millions, and while she can’t say for certain that the show would remain in its present location, Benton says her success will be listed right alongside the champion boxers and others; “Youngstown [The Debórah Show] will have delivered another big one to the nation. “
